Many of us have been home for months; working from home, homeschooling the kids, and just staying in for our safety. Because we were home, lounge wear and even pjs were mostly the outfit of choice. Now that the world is slowly opening back up; some places fully opened, it’s time to get back into the office and for me the classroom. That means we need to go shopping for workwear. When shopping for workwear there are a few things we need to think about. Below are my top 5 tips for shopping workwear. 

Comfort

When it comes to workwear comfort is a key component. Some of us are at work for eight hours or more each day and this means we require that our workwear be comfortable. This tip should never be a compromise as in order to produce quality work you must be happy and comfortable, and your workwear contribute to some of that comfort. So, pay attention to details like the style of the garment because not all styles are comfortable for long wear. 

 Versatile

Having the flexibility to switch up your work pieces; wearing them as suits/sets or as separates while in cooperating basic pieces in the mix is what versatility is all about. In order to get more out of your workwear, you have to ask yourself the, “How many ways can I wear this, and can I wear this outside of work” questions. These questions will help to guide your purchase and ensure you are selecting versatile pieces for your workwear wardrobe.

 Affordable 

We all want to look good without breaking the bank, meaning we don’t want to spend all the money we work on workwear. In addition, it is expensive to keep up with the ever-changing fashion trends. That being said, to spend less money on workwear you have to make sure you are buying the staple pieces and basics first. You can then add other pieces by shopping sales or thrifting.

 Durable

Without question you will need workwear that is durable as this will keep you from spending a lot of money buying pieces to add to your wardrobe all the time because the quality was poor. Your workwear should be able to stand the test of time, therefore, when buying these pieces, the aim is quality over quantity. Pieces that won’t be destroyed quickly, shrink in the wash or get ripped easily. 

 Season

Yes, the time of the year plays an important role in what pieces you accumulate for work. Having comfort in the back of your mind when shopping for workwear will allow you to choose the right pieces for the season, you are in or shopping for. You wouldn’t buy a sweater to wear to work during the summer; that makes no sense! So, make sure you think carefully about the time of year you plan to wear the pieces.

Remember your workwear is as important as the other clothing items in your wardrobe so, you should consider your comfort, versatility, affordability, durability and the time of the year when you are shopping/building your workwear wardrobe.
