3 Ways to Style an Ankara Skirt...

Hey, my loves, it’s your girl Kerry back at you for the second time this week. But never fear, I promised I would be more consistent and bring you fresh and new content as frequent as possible. With that being said, welcome to the first edition of #fashionfridays, also I will be short and spicy so don’t even worry about me taking up too much of your time.

A little background information on what I consider to be fashion Friday worthy. I think fashion Fridays should show new and innovative ways of styling pieces; whether it’s something I’ve worn before or something new styled in more than one way. Fashion Fridays is all about letting my creative juices flow and see what I come up with in the end.

So, let’s get this ball rolling! Today’s featured piece is this beautiful print skirt from Rainbow Shops; it was gifted to me by one of my gorgeous co-worker. I've had it for over a year and just decided to pull it out. If you know me then you know how extra I am, so I had to come up with different ways to style it. After much trial and error, I came up with three ways. I hope you like!

First up is the skirt as a skirt, lol… For the first look I styled the skirt it’s natural way, adding a black bustier top I bought at Citi Trends for $5. For many people this is the look they would go for because it’s simple and not much thought process is involved. Don’t be too quick to choose your favorite look just yet though!

Now for look number 2, I went for a baby doll kind of vibe. I ditched the bustier and pulled the skirt under my arm (If you are Jamaican, you’ve seen your mama done this before so stop tripping). I used the belts to create the illusion of straps by crossing them over my chest and then tucking them in the back of the skirt waist. And there you have it, a baby doll summer dress, ready to hit the road.

Finally, the skirt also as a dress but with a twist. I maintained the straps crossed over my chest and the baby doll look but I removed my head tie and used it as a belt to cinch my waist, thus breaking up the dress. This gave me a different vibe and a different look.

So, there you have it, skirt three ways! Give it a try and tag me in your pictures so I can see.

To accessorize, I went with gold earrings and gold cuffs from Citi Trends. My shoes are from Shoedazzle and my straw bag from Forever21. It’s important to pair the right accessories with an outfit because accessories can make or break the look.

Thanks for tuning in to my first #fashionfriday, I hope you enjoyed reading and viewing the pictures as much as I enjoyed writing the post and capturing the images. Now, it’s time for you to sound off in the comments. Which style was your favorite and why and please don’t hold back, let me know in the comment section.

Until next time, big up unnu self and stay irie!
