5 Things I've Learned On My Blogging Journey...

Happy Monday my loves and happy second blog anniversary to me. It’s already two years and I am elated to be celebrating with you guys. I created this platform to showcase the fashionable side of me and over the pass two years it has evolved into not just fashion but also lifestyle and travel conversations. Two years in and I’ve learned so many lessons and today I will share with you my top 5.

1. Relationships are Important

it’s very important in any situation or field to build a good relationship. I know this firsthand because as a teacher, the only way to bridge the gap between student and teacher is to build a positive relationship, it’s like the foundation. It is the same with blogging; people need to know that they can trust you and the content that you put out. Brands need to know that you are going to communicate with them to also build trust, so that brand and blogger can have a lasting and valuable partnership.

It is true when they say, “Nobody supports you like a social media friend you’ve never met!” How I know this? I have loads of social media friends who cheer me on every day, I’ve never met them but the love and support they give is like no other. My social media friends, I call them sis. They look out for me and treat this Jamaican country gal like a queen. How was I able to get their support? A thing call, engagement! When you constantly engage (like, comment and DMs) with others, you are forging your way to become a part of that person’s audience. In a matter of time they will know you and reciprocate. This helps to build good relationships with your audience and other bloggers.

2. Be Consistent

Whatever it is that you are doing, in order to perfect your craft, you must remain consistent. Being consistent lets your audience know that you are about this blogger life, that you are serious about what it is you’re doing and consistency builds knowledge and confidence. People need to know that they can count on you to produce content on a regular basis. Without you knowing you are letting your audience know that you are loyal and committed.

I’ve struggled with being consistent, especially on here because I am juggling a lot, but I’ve learned that having a scheduled time to post; whether it’s once a week or once a month helps my readers know when I will be posting fresh content. Consistent blogging is critical because you don’t want to lose your following. It’s just the way the social media world works, consistency is your way of being accountable as a blogger.

3. Be Yourself

I know you here this a lot and some of you maybe tired of hearing it but I’m gonna say it again, “Be yourself!” Let me break it to you, people actually love you for you and not you trying to be someone else. How can your audience trust you when you’re trying to put on a show? Listen, I’m a little dry foot Jamaican country gal and you will not get another girl out of me.

Being yourself helps people to trust you, stop trying to fit in. Aren’t you claustrophobic? I know I am and I will not put myself into that box! I am my best when I am happy and being myself helps with that. People will judge you regardless, so if that’s what you are worried about then you don’t really have any problems. And just to let you know, people will see through your fakeness and will not want anything to do with you.

4. Take Risk

I already had a rewarding and fulfilling job as a teacher, but I had a passion for fashion. I took the risk of starting a blog. I started with doubt and fear; doubt that I would fail and fear that people will not like me or the content I post but I looked pass that and took the risk. Fast forward to two years later and the risk I took has landed me sponsored posts, magazine and website features and trust me when I say that my name is in rooms, I’ve never set foot in.

You will never know what you can do and the impact you can make until you make the first step. Taking risks means you will face the feeling of uncertainty, but this will build courage. You will be learning from the mistakes and grow to be fearless and resilient.

5. How to Change My Clothes in a Car

If you been around for a while, then you would know that a little humor was coming. It wouldn’t be right for me not to let you laugh a little. Listen, your girl has mastered the art of changing her clothes in the car. The back seat is my fitting room and yes, I make it work every week. I shoot like 3 to 4 looks each week and for me to get them out the way without driving back home, I have to change in my car. Sometimes my husband is driving while I change and I will not skip a beat. That's how you know a girl got skills, haha... But it all ties into me being consistent; by any means necessary. Y’all want fresh content or nah?

Now that I got all the chit chat out the way, lets get into this look. You know that’s what you came for, speak the truth and shame the devil, LOL…

As you all know I love a one and done (jumpsuit) and I never miss an opportunity to wear one. When I first saw this Boohoo satin frill jumpsuit, I knew I had to get it. It spoke to me, the color, the frill and the fabric scream summer wedding vibe. And as extra as I am, I had to wear it for my blog anniversary. It also comes in white and the fit is great. Go grab yours while the sale is going on.

Let’s talk accessories, since the jumpsuit screamed summer wedding vibe to me, I decided to take that vibe and run with it. Wearing my hair in a sleek back look, I added the vine flower head piece from Burlington with chandelier earrings. Another thing I love is a belt and this gold plate metal belt is from Shein added the right touch.

This summer is all about bright colors and so I added this Aldo shoes (old) for that extra pop of color and my transparent clutch purse is from boohoo.
