Stay In Your Lane...

Hey my loves! How is the summer treating you? Make sure to stay hydrated and if you are on summer break like me then avoid the sun at all cost. That heat is no joke!

Speaking of staying hydrated, that’s what I’ve been basically doing all summer by drinking a lot of water and to add to that take care of my hair, skin and just my body in general. I have started to exercise because it’s good for the body and helps you to relax.

I’m all for taking care of self and that includes minding your business, doing what you are good at and not putting your hat where your hand can’t reach it (something my grandma always say); in other words, “STAY IN YOUR LANE.”

Too often we find ourselves being nosey and getting tangled up in other people’s business or mess. Some of us go out of our way just to meddle in people’s personal life. That’s not cute at all, mind the business that pays you. Being nosey just shows your messy character and your name leaves a distasteful effect on people. STAY IN YOUR LANE!!!

STAY IN YOUR LANE by doing something you are good at. Everything is not for everybody, trust and believe that. So, because you see someone else doing something, its not invitation for you to do it too. Find your liking, your call and work on perfecting that. Lord knows I’ve tried to sing my heart out but that wasn’t for me.

Stick to your passion, something you love. Remember they say, “If you love what you do, you never work a day in your life.” When you are passionate or love what you do it becomes easier to get up and do it. Do your research, ask questions, be eager to learn so you can perfect your craft. That’s the only time you are allowed to be nosey.

My granny always says, “Don’t hang your hat where your hand can’t reach it!” My granny had the ability to let you check yourself really quick without saying much. In this case, she meant don’t live a lifestyle that you can not afford. In other words, don’t live above your means.

See, social media have some of us all the way messed up. It’s easy to get caught up in wanting to have the latest gadgets, designer clothes and shoes, living in an upscale community, taking frequent trips, getting ‘turnt up’ with bottle service and the list goes on. All of which comes at a price, a price that our VISA/Master Cards can not afford.

In the end we are left with bills so high that they could choke us. You are left to find ways to pay these bills and facilitate the lifestyle that you have become accustom to. Some people find themselves in legal battles or even in jail because they couldn’t STAY IN THEIR LANE.

I’m sorry if I can’t get ‘turnt up’ every week, buy the latest designer clothes and shoe or take frequent trips; I’m sorry! I like my freedom and as much as I love me a one and done, there aren’t many ways I can style that orange jumpsuit. Don’t get caught up because in the end you will most likely be left standing alone.

Stand firm in your beliefs, do you and what you love and most importantly STAY IN YOUR LANE.

Now that I’ve got that out, lets talk outfit. This gorgeous Ankara wrap top is from SGTC Clothing, a Nigerian Afrocentric brand. This top is so versatile it can be worn in different ways. I will definitely be wearing this top again in a different way of course. To order your top and any other pieces send SGTC Clothing a DM on Instagram.

I opted to pair the wrap top with this black skater skirt I found at TJMax for $10. What a deal!? I’m taking these thick legs out for a spin hunny and let them get some sun in the meantime.

Let’s talk shoes, these black and white ones are from Zara (no longer available). I bought them during the Zara sale the other day. The black Guess bag is old, and you guessed it, I bought it on sale a while back. My lovely earrings are from Burlington.

Last year October I made the decision to make the big chop. I would be in a whole other world because natural hair was definitely not my lane at all. I ain’t got type 3 hair, nah, this kinky 4c hair is no joke baby. I took it on as a champ though. I research, test and try different products and styles and I must say I am really satisfied with the growth so far. I learned to manage the thickness of it and ways to care for my hair.

For this look I washed my hair with As I Am Naturally cowash, then I used the leave-in condition from the same brand to help soften my hair, so I could comb through it and then twisted it. I then used small rods to wrap the twists on, so I could get a curl pattern. I slept with the rods overnight and then I add Tropic Isle Living Jamaican Black Castor Oil to my scalp. The castor oil helps with the grow of my hair. There you have it, I hope you love it.

Until next time, please stay in your lane!
