Stripes Done Right...
Hey lovelies! I’ve missed y’all and I hope everybody is doing great. How them summer bodies coming along? Haha…
Let me get to the point… I have a question! To stripe or not to stripe at all? Well that’s kind of rhetorical since I’m triple striped right now… LOL…
Wearing stripes will never get old or go out of style. This classic yet modern pattern works no matter the season, occasion or mood. When it comes to wearing stripes, no specific rule applies. However, there are some tips and guidelines that will have you looking fashion forward if you take note of them.
Thin Slice
If you think about wearing a stripe dress or skirt, go for thinner stripes as those will be more flattering. The aim is to look appealing, yet comfortable.
The long and short of it
Yes, we love stripes but taking our body type into consideration is always key. If you are on the shorter side, then selecting vertical stripes is best as those are elongating and make you appear taller. Horizontal stripes on the other hand make you appear wider than you are.
Mix up
Don’t be afraid to mix colors and widths. Mixing different color stripes is always a good idea. Likewise, pairing a horizontal striped top with a thin striped pair of pants. Give them that chic look! A true mix up though, is mixing stripes with other prints; floral, polka dots, geometric, etc. Diversify your outfit a bit…
Monochromatic was the theme and no I did not listen to the rule that say, stripe on stripe on stripe is a no, no! completely skipped that part as you can see.
When I purchased this black and white pants set from Boohoo $39 (I liked it plus it was on sale), I thought of ways to style it without looking predictable and boring. This was what I came up with. I already had enough stripes, so I went for a solid color top. This white deep plunge bodysuit is also from Boohoo $12.50.
Adding the stripe shoes from Shoedazzle $39.95 was a bit risky but that’s who I am; a risk taker. By now you would have found out that I am a socks lover and during my brainstorming process I added the sheer socks from SheIn $7 (2 pairs). I loved it since it was bedazzled with stars.
Transparent bags are in style. Can you believe that? You better! Well my commas certainly not living up to the Chanel ones, so I opted for a less costly version in this striped clear wooden handle bag (I took the striped piece out) from SheIn $18. The mini/micro shades are also trending, and I got mine from Pretty Little Thing $5.
The layered necklace is from Walmart and they have a variety to choose from. Listen, I don’t discriminate when it comes to shopping. The Dollar store will get these coins if needs be. Oh, and I revamped an old wig over the weekend; washed it, cut and flat ironed it and BOOM I got a bob in action. Wig to the rescue!
In your books have I earned my stripes, or do I still need to work on some things? Let me know in the comment section. Also, please check me out on Instagram @Kass_Stylz. Thanks for all the love!
