Beach Please, My Girls Had Me Cruising to the Bahamas…
Hey my loves, miss me? Well, I’m back from my vacation and the last leg of work is kicking my butt. The kids are ready to go on their summer breaks and so am I. Let’s just say, this end of year teacher tired is like no other. In my previous blog post I told you guys I would have been cruising to the Bahamas with some ladies. So, here is the round up...
Enough of me ranting because I’m already late with the round up. Exactly two weeks ago at this time I was sailing to the Bahamas on Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas with some amazing women. Excited for my second cruise and first time to The Bahamas, I took on the daunting task of packing for 3 days. Now if you know me, then you know this is definitely a task. Since packing light is not my specialty, I downloaded the Royal Caribbean App so I would get an idea of the different events and activities going on while on the cruise.
With packing out the way; making sure I packed all the essentials, outfits I need and most importantly my documents. We made sure to get to the port on time so we could check in and go through security with ease. That went well except for a minor error the agent made by scanning my documents under someone else’s name. Soon after we were done and, on our way, to deck five.
First mission once we got on board was food. You already know me; I was in dream land. Apart from fashion, food is my next favorite ‘f’ word. So, to Windjammer we went! And regarding food, it’s all paid for unless you want something premium. And yes, the food is good, take it from me. There are several restaurants on the ship, and you can make reservations by stopping by the restaurant of your choice or through the App.

After food my cabin mate and I went to see our cabin on deck 10, check if our luggage got to the door and collect our sea pass (this is like your money at sea, at the end of the cruise you go to customer service to pay off your balance). We checked out our cabin and went back to deck 5 where our group had made plans to meet. We waited around for a while and then we went to the Royal Theater for guest assembly drill. The Royal Theater was also our meeting point should there be an emergency.
The night was still young, so we toured the ship and made stops at different locations. I was like a kid in a candy store, I was dancing and prancing. Before long I had to call it a night so I could get an early start to our day in Nassau.
It’s Day 2 and we get off the ship today for a full day in Nassau, but before we do that, we had breakfast. I made sure to put up my hair and put sunscreen on because baby that Caribbean sun is no joke. But hey, lets look at the bright side; I’m getting to venture on another Caribbean island. In order to leave the ship, you must take your sea pass and a picture ID. This lets them keep track of all passengers. Security scans your sea pass before leaving and upon return.
All the ladies did not get off the ship but 12 of us did and once we were off the ship, we got a tour bus that could take us around the island to major tourist attractions and even the places tourists wouldn’t normally venture. Driving around I learned a lot about Nassau and visited some of the scenic places. Our first stop was Atlantis, since we did not purchase a day pass to visit the property we only walked around and took pictures in the popular thrown chair.
We then left to continue the tour, driving through the town and seeing some of the government buildings. Our next stop was The Queen’s Staircase also known as the 66 steps. The steps were craved out of solid limestone rock by slaves. It is a major landmark of the island. The steps were named in honor of Queen Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain.
By this time all we wanted was some good food. In pursuit of finding food we stopped at Junkanoo Beach (a ten-minute walk to the ship). There we got food (jerk chicken, shrimp balls, fried plantain, fried fish, conch balls, etc.) and a few Bahama Mamas. Since the beach was so close to the ship we chilled there for a few hours (eating and swimming) and then we walked back to the ship.
Once we got back to the ship, we headed to Windjammer for dinner and then got ourselves ready for the Caribbean Party on deck 5. It was time to dance up a storm and party in the streets like we do in the islands. And we were not finish for the night, we went to a silent party (music is played through headphones and you can switch back and forth to different DJs). We finished the night by going to the club for about an hour, then we were off to bed.
Saturday morning came and my cabin mate and I had a pack day ahead. This was cruise day (we will be at sea all day) so we had to find activities to do on the ship. After breakfast we put our swimsuits on and headed to deck 15 to participate in water activities. But before that, the captain was so nice to stop by Royal Caribbean’s private island; Coco Cay. They completely redid the island with major attractions. I cannot wait to visit there. We went boogie boarding and then we went on the water slide. We wanted to do the zip line but the reopen time was not fitting into our planned schedule.
It was time to get ready for a musical called Grease, it lasted for 1 hour and 30 minutes, but it was all worth it. Yes, it was that good, so I recommend it if you ever cruise on Harmony. We were back to deck 15 and 16 for pictures and a drink at the bar.
Its hard to get 32 women on vacation to assemble in one area, after all everyone had their own adventure they wanted to take on. Nonetheless, we decided to have a formal dinner with everyone. That was a success as everyone should up looking beautiful and ready to eat. By the time dinner was finish I was really tired, and I could feel all the day’s activities taking a toll on my body. But before I went to bed, we stopped by customer service to settle our bill and checked out the 90s party on deck 5.
Back to the room to pack my suitcase, get some rest and be ready to leave the ship Sunday morning. I had a grand time on the cruise, and I think I can officially say that cruising is my thing. I love the fact that everything is on the ship, so many activities to participate in and best of all, the food is good.
